The P1 Arctic AI program

The program will foster a network of AI researchers interested in the Arctic region. The collaboration will position the program participants to target future funding, create strong, strategic synergies, and foster a shared Arctic AI research agenda. The interactions will support the joint identification and shaping of emerging research directions, position the program participants as leading contributors in Arctic AI, and establish a durable strategic network capable of attracting future funding opportunities and enabling sustained, high-impact research collaborations. The program will run for two years, and we plan to host two workshops, most likely in Copenhagen, for the ease of traveling. We will host the workshops at either DTU, DMI, or the P1 facilities (all located in the greater Copenhagen area). The two workshops serve as the primary driver for the program.

The program is a P1 Program funded by the Danish Pioneer Centre for Artificial Intelligence. Read more about the program on the P1 Website.

Workshop 1 - Foundations of Arctic AI and Generative Forecasting

The first workshop will focus on establishing a shared common understanding and technical foundation on recent developments within Arctic AI. We plan to hold sessions on recent deep learning approaches, with an emphasis on diffusion models for probabilistic sea ice forecasting and super-resolution (downscaling) tasks. We will also explore self-supervised learning techniques that can leverage vast amounts of unlabelled data for better representation learning. The workshop will feature technical deep-dive sessions and keynote presentations to identify synergies and potential research directions.

Date: June 8th, 2026

Venue: The event will be hosted at the audiotorium at
Natural History Museum Denmark
Øster Voldgade 5 – 7
1350 Copenhagen K.

The museum is a 2 minute walk from the danish Poineer Center.
